Hi there. I'm a geek. Now, you've probably already conjured an image of a twirp living in momma's basement, wearing taped glasses, and pants pulled up to his armpits. That would be the stereotype that I really don't fit. However, I enjoy digging into computers, I love video games, I understand software easily, and am grabbed by technolust at the drop of the next paper thin laptop (mmm, Mac Air...).
I am not rich by any means, and use my phone as an iPod. In fact, I'm listening to a playlist right now that I saved to the gigabyte card I popped in it within hours of purchasing. Not only that, but I have a couple shows saved on there too. Yup, I watch movies on my cell phone. But before you think I have the next best thing in phones, let me clarify that my phone is a Motorola Razr. Ah, yes. Not a phone known for its multimedia capabilities, but in the hands of a capable geek, a powerhouse of movie and music.
That's me, though. Geek is not an insult, but a fact. Thinkgeek.com has the most awesome toys known to man. I write websites and make a living troubleshooting a bit of software used by hospitals to file insurance claims electronically. But here's where the semi-sterotype ends. Why is that?
This geek is married to the Queen of the Universe. He also has three daughters, lives on his own with his family, and carries his 5'10" frame at a moderate 210 pounds. Not overweight; not skinny, and no pocket protectors. I also regularly play bass or drums in the church band, though I will likely start guitar soon, since our guitar player left and someone else in the church can play bass and we have a semi-regular drummer (he's the pastor's son, but his wife is the worship leader at another church -- go figure). I also enjoy writing screenplays among other things, and love, love, love movies.
But this blog is about life. My life with The Queen of the Universe and the girls: Rock Girl, who is gifted in the upper 1% of her grade level and reading at a mid-6th grade level in the third grade and enjoys playing her own guitar and chess; The Socialite who is so much like her mother that she prefers to chat in kindergarden than do well on her benchmark tests; and Sassy Pants who is three and has an attitude to match the name. When she gets older, maybe the name will change, but that's her best descripter for the moment.
But a life is before and after the present. It started somewhere, but it always moves forward. So accordingly, this story will deal with the past and the present. About how the Geek landed himself the Queen of the Universe and became the sole male in a house of women. Yeah, I've heard the jokes...
In about ten years, they say I'll be considering a secret place in the mountains where no one can find me...
